The piece is styled after some of the shorter pieces of Robert Schumann, with their piquant dissonances and tight construction. It is designated as Early Romantic because of the relative lack of variety in the figuration, but it is not Classical, as the harmonic movements are not the usual progressions one sees in Mozart or Schubert.
