Water Lily is a lyrical piece based on a short seven-five classical-style poem I wrote nearly 20 years ago, when I was still in middle schoolaround 2004. The words were simple and unpolished, but I have always had a special fondness for them. That was the age when I was deeply captivated by Jin Yongs Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils, and the unfulfilled love between Azhu and Qiao Feng left a lasting impression. If she had lived in today's world of romantic time-travel dramas, I imagine Azhu rowing a small boat across Mirror Lake, singing softly, and living a quiet, contented life by Qiao Feng's side.

The inspiration to turn this old poem into a song came when one of my students took a short trip to New York to see Monets Water Lilies. She returned full of excitement, telling me all about it, and our conversation stirred something in me. That childhood poem resurfaced, now clothed in the tranquil beauty of Monets palette and a melody shaped by memory and imagination.

The final photo in the video shows a water lily blooming in a friends backyard pond in Calgary, taken last summer. We had been invited for afternoon tea; the sunlight was soft, and everything was peaceful. In that quiet moment, I felt that all the tenderness of life still existslike a water lily blooming silently on the rippling surface.

May all true hearts find one another. May every gentle waiting blossom into something eternal.
