Product Description

The waltz Donauweibchen (Danube Mermaid) was composed by Johann Strauss Jr. in December 1887 featuring melodies from his operetta The Simplicius.The term Donauweibchen is taken from a quartet from the third act of that operetta and refers to a river nymph, who can do both, good and evil. It premiered on 8 January 1888 as part of Eduard Strauss' Sunday concerts in the Vienna Musikverein. The arrangement is kept in the original key of the composition for symphony orchestra and was commissioned and first time performed by Mozarteum Wind Philharmonic Salzburg conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their "New Year's Concert" on 6 January 2012 at the "Grosses Festspielhaus" (Large Festival Hall) in Salzburg, Austria.
