I took 4 stanzas from the John Greenleaf Whittier epic poem The Eternal Goodness and set them to music trying to capture and express the hopes and unknowns and certainties that he has about life. This composition is a strophic art song. It works equally well in both sacred and secular settings as the only religious references are poetically implied as "He". The piece can be done as an SATB a capella performance, or sung as a Unison hymn. Either way it is an expressive poetic choral performance.
