The text, also know as "Wrestling Jacob", describes Jacob's physical and spiritual struggle with the pre-incarnate Son of God. It reveals the inner struggle of man wrestling to know, "Who is God?". Finally, the piece resolves with the triumphant declaration that, "Thy nature and Thy name is Love!" The voices begin with an optional solo or unison choir, broadening to 2 and 4 parts throughout. Delight the listeners with an optional countermelody in verse 4, and an a capella section in verse 5. The simple, intermediate level accompaniment compliments the text and supports the voices throughout the piece. The arrangement begins in an easy to play key of G, transposes to the lower key of F, and finishes with a broader, slower melody in the key of G. The voices remain at a comfortable range.
