Product Description

Written in 1922 , " The Serenaders " is the first movement of a little known suite titled " Impressions - At the Movies " by John Phillip Sousa. Originally scored for military band, " The Serenaders " is a delightful musical depiction of a college student trying to woo co-eds at a neighboring university. Subsequent movements include: " The Crafty Villain and the Timid Maid " and " Balance All and Swing Partners."

Transcribed for double brass quintet, the piece retains its exuberance and flair for whimsy and evokes the era of Sunday afternoon concerts in the park. From Herbert L. Clarke-like cornet solos/cadenzas and quintet duels to rousing tutti sections, this is an all out crowd pleaser. Only Sousa sounds like this!
