The anthem of this English-speaking South American nation was chosen as a result of a competition one month before independence was granted in 1966. Dear Land of Guyana, of Rivers and Plains was selected a month before independence in 1966, the lyrics were written by Archibald Leonard Luker and the music was composed by Robert Cyril Gladstone Potter.
