Product Description

Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 5 is commonly called the "Reformation" due to its use of the Martin Luther chorale "A Mighty Fortress." It is really good music, but it just does not get performed very much by symphony orchestras. As a result, this arrangement is a welcome addition to the brass and organ repertoire, that allows this wonderful setting of "A Mighty Fortress" to be heard by a broader audience. This arrangement has been adapted from the 4th movement (Finale) of the Symphony and includes all of the major thematic material of the Chorale. Perfect for a concert or any church service, especially around Reformation Sunday! This arrangement is a shorter version of the "Introduction and Finale" by Mendelssohn, which is also arranged by Dorm 40 Music and available on Sheet Music Plus. The performance time for "A Mighty Fortress" is about 5:20, whereas the "Introduction and Finale" runs about 9:15. As a result, this arrangement may be better suited to a church service, due to its shorter playing time. B-flat and C trumpet parts are provided as well as an optional Timpani part.
