Product Description

Let Us Break Bread Together is an African American spiritual often associated with the Underground Railroad, a string of safe places for slaves escaping the southern United States in the early-to-mid 19th century. Spirituals and work songs were sung by slaves as coded information to escaping slaves as they moved north to safety. The lyrics  that include "When I fall on my knees with my face to the rising sun" suggest an association with religions practiced in Africa. However, this beautiful and inspirational hymn melody was taken up by Protestant churches after the civil war and used to celebrate the Christian sacrament of Holy Communion.
This arrangement is an Intermediate Piano solo in the key of F major that builds to a percussive bass suggesting African drum rhythms and the origin of this melody.

This product was created by a member of ArrangeMe, Hal Leonard's global self-publishing community of independent composers, arrangers, and songwriters. ArrangeMe allows for the publication of unique arrangements of both popular titles and original compositions from a wide variety of voices and backgrounds.
