Product Description

Gustav Mahler's In Search of Higher Understanding (1896) - A singing contest between a cuckoo and a nightingale, judged by a donkey. This was a light work by Mahler for baritone and orchestra that describes a contest of singing by a cuckoo and a nightingale which was judged (rather unfairly it seems) by a donkey. It Is said that Mahler wrote this as a tweek to his critics. It has been arranged for clarinet quartet by John Gibson. Parts: Bb clarinet 1,2, alto, and bass with an alternate 3rd Bb clarinet part to substitute for an alto. This piece is also a part of a group of pieces called It Isn't Easy Being a Cuckoo and available on Sheet Music Plus. You can watch a You Tube video of the score at http://youtu.be/sEa7w8i5Ij4
