Performed here by Andrew Pennington
Non-tonal composition written for the Delian Society's Nu-Music event for 2009 -
the project being to write music for a silent movie.
I chose a segment from a mad dash through New York in 1926 by Kenlon, the famous Fire Chief of that time, and I set it to a frenetic piano accompaniment based on tritones and a regular rhythm of 3-3-4. Very different from my usual style!
The film used in the video was obtained, with thanks, from the Prelinger Archives.
