The Secret Garden is a musical that premiered on Broadway in 1991, based on a novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. It is a story about a 10 year old girl named Mary, who is forced to move from India to England to live with relatives after her parents' death from cholera. Her new home is an unhappy one, as Mary's uncle, Archibald, is still mourning the death of his wife. Mary finds a garden that is locked and learns that it had once belonged to Archibald's wife. The garden has been locked since her death. Mary asks her uncle for a bit of earth so she can plant a garden of her own. This is the song that Archibald sings about his niece.
This arrangement is scored for string orchestra: 3 violins, viola, 2 cellos, and double bass.
This is a beautiful song to add to your recital program.
