The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Flutist
a Chappell Roan Medley
arranged for flute orchestra by Erin Spencer
approximate duration 6'30"
Hailing from Willard, Missouri, pop singer-songwriter Chappell Roan has quickly become an influential voice in todays music scene, particularly within the Queer community. Known for her flamboyant performance style, unapologetically queer lyrics, and heartfelt storytelling, she crafts music that speaks to the complexities of identity, love, and self-discovery. Through both her artistry and public advocacy, Chappell Roan has become an icon for LGBTQIA+ audiences, especially for those navigating life and dreams beyond their hometowns.
The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Flutist weaves together four of Roans songs the bittersweet longing of Good Luck Babe, the glittering energy of HOT TO GO!, the intimate vulnerability of Casual, and the triumphant freedom of Pink Pony Club. This medley is beautiful in its tender moments, but it also bursts with vivacity when HOT TO GO! hits its stride. I wanted to celebrate the resilience, joy, and unapologetic self-expression at the heart of Chappell Roans music while giving a nod to the shared experiences of many Midwestern dreamers who take their own leap into the wider world.
