Product Description
While working in his family garden, the inspiration came to David Mallett to chronicle the experience in song. It was one of the first songs that Mallet wrote. Like a garden, the success of the song only grew over time, and Mallett regarded the song like a gift. For some, it was a song about planting a garden. But for many, it went on to symbolize how daily toils lead to greater things in the future.
The Garden Song has been recorded by many famous artists, including Pete Seeger, Peter, Paul, and Mary, John Denver, and even The Muppets. Perfect for school ensembles, community groups, or themed performances celebrating nature, growth, or togetherness, this arrangement maintains the folk charm of the original while providing opportunities for expressive phrasing, teaching syncopation, and working on ensemble balance.
David Mallet passed away in December 2024, so in his memory, we continue to play his Garden Song.
