In the summer of 2017, Portugal experienced an authentic inferno of flames.
The human and environmental tragedy was enormous and flooded us with images and dismay.
At the same time, I was offered the chance to write a piece for tuba and piano by the virtuoso Sérgio Carolino, one of our music's greatest ambassadors. Combining the humanist side of Sérgio that I know and the images that were in my head, I came up with the following piece.
