Product Description

The Sonata quasi una fantasia, now universally known as the Moonlight Sonata, is Ludwig van Beethoven's 14th piano sonata, Opus 27, Number 2. This iconic work was composed between 1801 and 1802.

Beethoven created this masterpiece during one of the most challenging periods of his life. At the time, he was grappling with the realization that his hearing was deteriorating irreversiblya struggle that would profoundly influence both his music and his legacy.

In this arrangement of the Moonlight Sonata, the viola takes center stage, carrying the most technically demanding part of the composition. It introduces and sustains a triplet figuration from the beginning, maintaining it almost until the end. Throughout the arrangement, there are moments where the triplet figuration transitions between the viola and the violin. Please play these sections as if a single instrument is playing the entire phrase with a smooth and cohesive flow.

This rendition of the Moonlight Sonata is ideally suited for a concert or in a recital setting. It is an advanced-intermediate level piece, primarily due to the challenging viola part. With a duration of approximately seven minutes, this arrangement offers audiences a glimpse into Beethoven's genius.
