Product Description

A beautiful Marion Carol, A Spotless Rose, was first published in 1599 in Koln, Germany, and is attributed to Melchior Vulpius. In 1609, a more commonly recognized version for SATB Choir was published by Michael Praetorius. Later, in 1896, Johannes Brahms used the carol's theme as the base for a chorale prelude.
This setting for solo organ is based on the Vulpius melody. It first presents the melody in a traditional Renaissance canonic form, with interjections reminiscent of Praetorius's and Brahms's harmonizations.
It's a wonderful addition to any organist's repertoire for the Advent season.
