Product Description

The New Nashville Cats collide with Celtic flair in this unique spin on the most famous fiddle-feature in country & rock repertoire!

NOTE: This chart is available in 3 different instrumentation formats, please visit the following links to find versions for Trio (2 violins), Trio (vln/vla/clo), or String Quartet

First things first. If you're looking for a chart to sightread on a background-music gig, immediately leave this page. There is nothing for you here. IF, however, you need a show-stopping closer to your string ensemble's show that will leave your audience saying "what in the actual heck just happened?" then you have come to the right place!!

Some of you may be familiar with the version of Devil that I posted on SMP several years ago for full band & strings, which followed the full form of Charlie Daniels's original studio version including the verses & spoken sections (you can find that chart here if you're interested). What you have here is a bit of a different take. This version is specifically arranged for instrumental ensembles performing without a rhythm section (although I still have included a lead sheet for groups performing with drums, bass, etc.) It skips right over the spoken sections without feeling abrubt or chopped, adds a few flashier harmonized licks to amp up the energy, and just when you think you know how the story ends it takes a hard dive into a traditional Irish reel that's sure to have your audience stomping & clapping along right before a firy flourishing finish!!

If extended technique is your vibe, there are several spots where the optional addition of chopping, fingerboard slaps, cut triplets, and foot stomping can take the groove to another level. It will take a bit of practice, but a well-rehearsed performance of this chart will leave your audience begging for more, whether playing as a trio, quartet, or full band! So warm up those right hands and get ready to rock!

Performance time - 3:17 at marked tempo
