Product Description

A unique and evocative SSAA choir and piano arrangement of the ever-popular 'Poor Wayfaring Stranger', a traditional American folk hymn telling the story of a plaintive soul on their journey through life.

This spiritual song has been lovingly crafted for choral voices, featuring two differing musical sections;

First, an impressionistic filmscore-style piano introduction and expressive opening verse, evoking an American landscape as the wayfarer travels through 'this world below' to a brighter land.

Subsequently, the second section begins with an upbeat piano riff painting the picture of our stranger on horseback gently traversing the Appalachian mountains, with hopeful vocal call and echo rising to a joyous musical peak, then fading away through gentle canonic counterpoint as the lonesome traveller disappears into the distance and draws to their allegorical journey's end, signified by the final plagal cadence.

Highly recommended for Ladies Choirs, schools, colleges and the choral community.

May also be performed in SSAT choral format.
*TB format also available

Choral: Level 1 / Beginner / Easy
Piano: Level 2 / Intermediate

The recording is in Em - the score is in F minor.
