Music by Riz Ortolani and Nino Oliviero

Lyrics by Marcello Ciorciolini and Norman Newell

As performed by Bobby Darin

Arranged for brass band by Matt Shaw
Suggested Level - 3rd Section +

Now an international easy listening hit, the song 'More' first came to light in its original form as the theme to the 1962 Italian documentary film 'Mondo Cane'. With music by film composer Riz Ortolani and Nino Oliviero, Italian lyrics by Marcello Ciorciolini and adapted into English by Norman Newell, 'More' became an overnight sensation, winning the 1964 Academy Award for Best Instrumental Theme and being nominated at the same awards for Academy Award for Best Original Song, where it was performed live by Katyna Ranieri. Since then, it has been a hit for Jazz trombonist Kai Winding, Vic Dana, Frank Sinatra and Carol Williams. This arrangement is based on the 1964 version released by Bobby Darin.

This brand new arrangement from Matt Shaw takes all the easy listening big band charm of Darin's 1964 version and transports it effortlessly into the world of the brass band. This arrangement was originally put together for the wedding of Dave and Molly Chapman, and was requested by the bride and groom to be played by a live brass band at the ceremony. Aside from a quasi improvised solo line for the solo cornet at figure A, the arrangement is scored as a whole band piece, with melodic lines often doubled, and light supporting accompaniments. Basses take the role of the walking string bass, and percussion requires kit on one part, and a secondary combined timpani/vibraphone part.

The suggestion of '3rd Section +' is due to a modulation from concert Ab major to concert A major, then again to Bb major. I have released another version without this modulation, which moves from Ab major to Bb major, which is listed as 'suggested for Youth/4th Section +'

This arrangement is a bright, light and straight-forward addition to any band library, and lends itself to Stage and Screen programmes, Jazz/Big Band programmes, or as an entertaining and well-known concert piece guaranteed to entertain and please both your band and audiences.
