Product Description

George Gershwin's Prelude No. 2 was originally written for piano and first performed in 1926. It was a part of an originally planned set of 24 preludes to be called "The Melting Pot;" however, this was reduced to seven in anuscript form, and then further reduced and publshed as a suite of three preludes in 1926. Pulling from both jazz and blues, it was meant as a short yet serious concert performance piece. Gershwin himself called it a 'blues" lullaby. Here it is arranged for string orchestra by Joel Jacklich (ASCAP). It is also playable by string quartet (the bass being almost identical pizzicato mirror of the arco cello part).
