Hans Sitt was a German composer, violinist, and teacher who lived from 1850 to 1922. He was known for his contributions to violin pedagogy and his compositions, which include a variety of works for violin and piano, as well as orchestral and chamber music.
One of his notable works is 5 Little Fantasies About Christmas Carols, Op. 74, which was published in two parts: the first two movements in 1902 and the remaining three in 1922. This collection includes five movements, each based on a different Christmas carol. The fourth movement, Joseph Dearest, Joseph Mine, is based on the traditional German carol Joseph, lieber Joseph mein. This is a is a beautiful piece that reflects the tender and serene nature of the original carol. The melody is simple yet expressive, capturing the essence of the Christmas spirit.
