The original tune of Sleep, Dearie, Sleep is a traditional Scottish lament for the bagpipes that compares death and long sleep. It is also used as a taps signal in Highland army regiments. The song became well-known after it was played at the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on September 19, 2022. The song itself is an adaptation of the Gaelic song Caidil mo ghaol.
