Product Description

This piece for handbell ensemble, Dzvin, meaning "bell-ringing" in Ukrainian, is dedicated to the resilient spirit of the Ukrainian people. The tradition of bells and bell-ringing in Ukraine dates back many centuries. Early bells may have been imported, with the first ones called "kampan," from the Latin campana, likely a nod to Campania, the Italian province renowned for its bell bronze ore.

The spread of bells in medieval Kiev is evidenced not only by historical chronicles but also by archaeological discoveries of uniquely shaped bells dating as far back as the 11th century. Chronicles describe how bells were used in Kievan Rus for religious ceremonies, summoning assemblies, and marking significant events. The introduction of Christianity to Kievan Rus further enriched this tradition, weaving bells into both religious and secular life.

This celebratory piece offers an elegant and uplifting musical selection suited for worship services, weddings, and other ceremonial occasions.
