'The Holiday' is a 2006 romantic comedy film written, produced and directed by Nancy Meyers; it was filmed in both California and England and stars Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz as Iris and Amanda, two lovelorn women from opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean, who arrange to swap homes with each other during the Christmas holidays, with unexpected consequences. The soundtrack contains music by various artists including Hans Zimmer, who is more familiar with action films, but there is something very warm and cosy about his work here - you may notice a similarity between the opening notes on the piano and the perennial Christmas song, 'Fairytale of New York', to add an extra dimension.
