DIES PACIS quotes the theme of DIES IRAE 'the day of wrath.' This musical subject is associated with death and melancholy. DIES PACIS is dedicated to the memory of Gordon Francis Blaney, Jr. He was a multi-instrumentalist and Berklee alum. We met through a variety of Facebook groups devoted to music composition and orchestration. He had mental health issues, autism, and epilepsy. Gordon died tragically in a car accident in 2020, at the age of 37. Gordon and I would talk about music, mental health, and spirituality on a regular basis. One of my spiritual views is that death is a form of relief from pain, similar to serenity or peace. (In Latin, PACIS.) Gordon's life was cut short, as evidenced by the unresolved music over notes G, F, and B (Gordon's initials). Autumn Maria Reed, composer.
