SAMAN - accessible gentle piece for FLUTE & GUITAR

Intended for classical guitar, though sometimes it gets listed erroneously under electric guitar.

Derek Hasted writes "Composed for piano in the key of 3 flats, this gentle piece has a timeless, ethereal sound.

There are a handful of arrangements for guitar using a Capo to recreate the original key, but its hard to recreate the spacious, effortless sound and pedal sustain of the piano.

My flute and guitar duet version places the piece in a different key, where the guitar breathes more easily, and adds a lot of depth to the flute part. The difficult guitar chords and stretches, the awkward sustains - theyve all gone, and the result is an accessible duet that will delight audiences with its grace and smoothness.

The flute part occasionally reaches top E (3 ledger lines up) and its important not to be shrill here, as the flute will carry over the guitar at even a modest volume.

There are no dynamics, but somehow the piece seems to know how it needs to be played...
