A setting for flute solo of "The Old Rugged Cross" hymn. The acompaniment uses two of Bach's Preludes, Prelude No. 1 in C major and Prelude No. 2 in C minor. The arrangement cleverly uses as much of the original preludes as possible. The first verse and chorus are set to Bach's Prelude No. 1 in C major, then there is an abrupt transition to the paralele minor, Prelude No. 2 in C minor is used to accompany the second verse. A final transition returns, and the piece ends with Prelude No. 1 in C major.
