A dreamy waltz that provides a calm contrast to the storming turmoil of the sonata's other movements, culminating in its own, almost exaggerated, climax before returning to the initial tranquility.

 
Ulrich Lehensteiner's Violin Sonata in c is a very dark and tumultuous piece of chamber music, with only a few bright moments. The ominously drifting mood of the first movement is only briefly interrupted by the dreamy waltz of the second movement, followed up with an absolute forced march a finale that blasts through from start to finish with the highest energy possible. The virtuosity of the sonata lies not so much in the technically difficult figures, but in maintaining that high level of energy demanded by incessant rhythms and constant fortes throughout the entire piece that is 20 minutes of music.
