This arrangement for piano and voice is a showy and fun-to-sing medley of some of my favorite spirituals. I've taken liberty with tempi, keys, rhythmic feel (alternating between swing and even 8ths) various effects in the voice to sell the message of each. It begins with Go Down, Moses in the key of A minor in a straight forward manner before the piano accompaniment adds rhythmic energy on the chorus. It soon switches to a swing feel for the transition into Joshua in Dm. When the 'walls come down' the piano switches to a chromatic descending line in even 8ths. Other effects include a vocal gliss on the modulation from Dm- Eb minor as well as a mini-cadenza for the voice on a high Bb (when "Joshua cried"). The piano takes its turn to state the melody (in E minor) before both join in on the final chorus in F minor, where both parts descend in a chromatic duet when the 'walls come tumblin' down'. Note: This arrangement requires some drama to perform!
