Excursion No. 4 is one of seven short character pieces that I composed during the second half of 2023. I wrote this series of compositions after being inspired by Chick Corea's Children's Songs. Chick called these children's songs, but they were far from it. Because they were all piano pieces, I started my Excursions as piano pieces, but with a short time I was arranging them for different instrumental combinations. These last 6 months of 2023 were very exciting for me because they marked my return to composing after nearly 20 years.
Needless to say, Excursion No.4 Medium Swing is inspired by my work as a jazz pianist.
