Mendelssohn was a German composer, pianist, and conductor of the Romatic era in music. This exerpt is a movement from his oratorio "Elijah." The text was based on passages from Psalm 55:22, Psalm 16:8, Psalm 108:5, and Psalm 25:3. Since this piece is marked "molto catabile," it should be played lyrical or songlike. A modulation to a new key occurs at the end of B section with the aid of a German augmented sixth chord. At the Più maestoso, around section C, a descant is then added by yours truly.
