Mann was a British organist, choirmaster, teacher, composerand hymnist from the later 19th to early 20th centuries. This is a good piece for New Years Day or New Years Eve. It should be played with a martial feeling. Section A and C are the verse. Section B and D are the refrain. A modulation to a new key occurs at the end of scetion B with the aid of a French augmented sixth chord. Section C then adds a descant by yours truly.
