Hans is giving away a lump of gold in exchange for a horse, then the horse for a cow, the cow for a hog, the hog for a goose and at last the goose for a simple stone. All his business partners naturally are convinced to have made the better end of the bargain. Hans, however, is similarly pleased with each of his trades. Then, finally, when the stone slipped out of his hands into a well, he found himself delighted, because he did not have to carry the heavy rock any more. Maybe there is some wisdom in this. Also, the number seven is playing a role here.
