When Church Is Out is a piano solo arrangement of the 1897 hit pop song by Carrie Jacobs-Bond, which was originally a ballad for voice and piano. The original song was only 16 bars long. Inspired by the unique title, I took the melody and reset it as a 4 part gospel church hymn. Then 'when church is out' I kick up my heels, move the key up a half step, and it becomes a playful driving jazz development concluding with a grandiose Amen.
