This is a concert piece for Viola and Piano, based on Klezmer and Hasidic musical motifs.
The melodic idioms evoke Jewish Life in the Pale of Settlement, under the old Russian
Empire.
The middle section tries to convey somehting of the mystical atmosphere of a Jewish Wedding in the
old Shtetl. However, towards the recapitulation, the harshness of everyday life reappears,
and eventually dissipates all the hopeful strains heard before.
The piano part requires careful study, but it should be very rewarding to play.
