The piece veers from the sunny opening atmosphere into a maelstrom of tension and frustration before being soothed into resolution, ultimately returning to the opening mood of optimism. Scholten intended the work te be an exploration of the different qualities of the pedal harp, enhanced by his first foray into electronic techniques, which are used sparingly to enhance certain timbres.
