In December 2009, one of my heroes past away. I am pretty sure that he never saw himself as a hero or even knew how many lives he changed. It is because of him that I stayed involved with music. There were many times that I almost put down my trumpet and walked out but every time I started to I would hear his voice telling me "Dammit, get back in your spot!" Well, over twenty four years later, I am not only playing, but I have learned how to write down the music that I have always heard in my head. He was the First in a long line of Professors, who taught me not only about music but about life and its real meaning. Mr. Robert Nygaard, this is what I heard as the sun set at your memorial service.
