Product Description

"Summertime" was a considerable TikTok sensation back in 2020. Originally by Japanese bands cinnamons & evening cinema, this song has been covered numerous times, by various singers and arrangers. Inspired by a jazzy cover by _Maggie & Nyan, this arrangement aims to emulate that overflowing "boppiness" and the bittersweet romance invoked in the original songs lyrics for strings!

This arrangement gives every part in a string ensemble a portion to shine it is advisable to have at least 9 musicians, 2 per part + 1 contrabass. The melody is passed to every section (except the contrabass, which essentially doubles the cellos bass line; it is optional for performing). Supporting the melody are smooth harmonies, sometimes invoking that of a second vocalist (akin to the original and cover). It is sufficiently complex to provide good technical and rhythmic challenges the latter being more prominent for those that are more musically proficient, but not too much to deter less experienced players (such as student musicians) to play.

This piece starts in a transposed key of D major (like the cover) before a key change to the originals E major at the end. Length is approximately 240". Contains score and parts.

Arrangers Note: The original song is much more energetic and percussive, while the aforementioned cover has a softer, cantabile feel. This arrangement is, to some extent, a hybrid of these atmospheres. Because of this and the apparent recency of the piece of pop culture it references, this arrangement is more suitable for casual/semi-formal events (e.g., outdoor gigs, festivals, school events), less so for solemn ones (e.g., church services). Remember, its summertime were talking about a youthful, perhaps cheeky, vibrance is key.
