In January 2007 I lost one of my first composition teachers, Gerald Kemner. Dr. Kemner was a brilliant composer and pianist, and I wanted to memorialize him. I found in my notes from his class a handout of nine motives that he gave to me as ideas for pieces. I stitched these together in the Mt. Moriah Prelude as a pastiche. Dr. Kemner is buried in Mt.
