This work was inspired by, and provided as an alternative to, Steve Reich's 'Clapping Music'. Music for Clapping is for two players, in an ABAB structure, and explores various irregular and changing time signatures. There is much interplay between the two clapping parts; sometimes they are quite independent (where one part leads and the other accompanies). In other instances the parts are in canon, solo, or even in unison. The piece is highly accessible and is appropriate for most standards of percussionist, including students and more advanced players.
