This is a lead sheet, with lyrics, chord symbols and guitar fret boards, for a jazz group, small to large, with singer. It is the foundation for a variety of arrangements, contra facts, and improvisations.
Chosen One is a good selection for a group with a "blues" orientation that would like to experiment with a 12-bar progression that differs quite a bit from standard blues.
The audio sample is a jazz swing accompaniment from iReal Pro, combined with melody from Finale -- a jazz quartet arrangement.
Chosen One has a 12-bar structure, but the underlying chord progression differs from many typical "blues" progressions. I characterize the "spirit" of my 12-bar structure as: Pride (first 4 bars), the Fall (middle 4 bars), and Repentance or Reconciliation (last 4 bars).
Therefore, this new 12-bar chord structure can support a variety of lyrics and tunes on the theme of pride, failure, and reconciliation.
My specific lyrics in the lead sheet may refer to any individual who has succumbed to overweening pride or unrealistic self-confidence. It warns such an individual of the consequences of prideful behavior and action and points to what might be needed to recover, repent, or gain forgiveness.
Here are the lyrics to Chosen One:
You talk and act like you're the Chosen One.
The day will come, you'll see what you have done.
Will you feel shame, take blame, and decline to run?
Instrumental, followed by
Will you feel shame, take blame, and decline to run?
Lord, may this be done!
