Product Description

String Quartet (2011)

"With tightly wound rhythms, dramatic figures, and an emotionally stirring performance, Mark Zanters String Quartet is nine attacca movements of beauty." American Record Guide

String quartet is an expansive single movement work, which during its course features members of the ensemble in various solo, duo, and trio combinations. The musical material-an interval series-is presented first in a fragmented, dissonant context that becomes increasingly consonant as the work progresses through sections that alternate intense rhythmic activity with calm, highly expressive solos.

The quartet was commissioned by the Ankara University Soloists String Quartet and was premiered at Marshall University Festival of New Music 2012 as part of their residency as Edwards Distinguished Visiting Professors of the Arts. The work received repeat performances during their subsequent mid-Atlantic tour.

String Quartet is approximately 20:00 in duration and is suitable for advanced performers. Performance materials available for purchase from the publisher: mjicmusicpublishing@gmail.com

The audio sample is the last section of the work. To hear selections from the entire work visit: http://www.navonarecords.com/catalog/nv5980/
