Play sixteenth notes on the drums by counting 1e&a, 2e&a, 3e&a, 4e&a etc, remember there are now 4 sixteenth notes for every quarter note and counting this way helps to get the timing of the sixteenth notes correctly spaced. Count out loud, e.g. "One", "e" (say the same way as you would say the e's in deed) "and" "uh" or "ah" it's written "1 e & a" to keep it straight forward. There are variations you might see like "1 e and ah" or "1 e + a".
