Product Description

A fresh and inspiring approach to a beloved Christmas carol, this arrangement of "The First Noel" begins with the tolling of a distant bell and a plaintive organ melody that evokes "a cold winter's night that was so deep." Organ and choir counterpoint one another in several contrasting carol stanzas before a triumphant climax invoking congregational participation: "Then let us all with one accord/Sing praises to our heav'nly Lord." The arrangement ends mysteriously, hinting at the unearthly awe of Christmas morning. This carol setting will add warmth and joy to seasonal performances by church, school, or community choirs.

Duration 6 minutes.

This arrangement was premiered by The Genevans, student choir of Geneva College, in December 2015. Note that the linked YouTube recording is from the first edition of the work, with a few harmonic changes. Duration and instrumentation are unchanged.
