Folksy was written for violist Leanne Darling, who has a strong classical background and also plays Arabic music, jazz and popular music. It is 5 minutes in length and appropriate for advanced students.

The piece draws on the folk-style music that I played in the NYC subways. It is meant to evoke a hurdy-gurdy. Much of the time the melody is accompanied by a drone that becomes more and more rhythmic as the piece progresses. It was premiered in a concert of solo pieces I presented at The Stone in New York City in 2011.
