Product Description
Those Who Are Wise, an anthem for SATB choir with obbligato bassoon and text from the Book of Daniel, inspires wistful and tantalizingly beautiful images which I hope to have captured.
The very quiet piece should be sung throughout with a straight tone. The dynamic indications are not exaggerated: diminuendos at the ends of phrases should be taken to nothing. If singers run out of breath while holding one of these notes they should not rearticulate the pitch. The bassoon - which you may take as the voice of wisdom - must never be covered by the voices.
The anthem is suitable for any memorial service or as special service music.
Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky
and those who lead many to righteousness
like the stars forever and ever
- Daniel 12:3
The cover image, taken by the Wide-Field Infrared Survey Explorer, shows a cosmic rosebud blossoming with new stars. Berkeley 59 and NGC 7822 are in the constellation Cepheus, at a distance of about 3,300 light-years from Earth. The NASA/JPL photograph is in the public domain.
