Passacaglia On EGD For Piano follows the dance style that exists in a triple time. The feature in the theme consists of notes that start in a forward direction, followed by its retrograde direction. Here is how the theme is organized. The first four bars contains EGDC#EBF#A. The notes of the next four bars are arranged this way: AF#BEC#DGE.
To perform this work, one may apply the damper pedal for each note of the theme from bars 1-8. Apply the damper pedal for each quarter-note beat from bars 9 to 48. From measures 49-72, the pedal may not be used to allow clarity of the theme; however, the pedal may be used from bars 73 to the end of the piece.
