Jorge A. Salazar is a distinguished Colombian composer whose work harmonizes the rich traditions of Colombian and Latin American music with refined academic techniques. His compositions gracefully blend classical and popular styles, crafting soundscapes that are both unique and evocative.
Salazar’s achievements include First Prize at the Alberto Grau International Choral Composition Contest and consecutive wins at the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra Choral Composition Competition. His piece El Renacuajo Paseador, honored by the Colombian Ministry of Culture, showcases his innovative approach to choral and chamber ensemble writing. His music has been embraced by vocal ensembles across Colombia, establishing him as a notable figure in contemporary choral music.
One of his landmark works, Canción por la Esperanza, was premiered during the opening concert of the 2013 America Cantat International Choral Festival. Deeply rooted in Latin American culture, Salazar’s compositions reflect his heritage with vivid authenticity.
Salazar serves as Music Director at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Aurora, Colorado, and has shaped countless young musicians through his role as Head of Conducting Studies at Corpas University in Bogotá, Colombia, since 2003. His commitment to education and musical leadership has left a lasting impact on the fields of conducting and composition.
In addition to composing, Salazar has earned acclaim as a conductor. With degrees in Orchestral Conducting from the National University of Colombia and the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver, he has led orchestras on international stages. His accolades include reaching the semifinals of the Cadaqués International Conducting Competition and receiving the Best Conductor Award at the VI International Choir Festival in Santander. Salazar’s musical artistry is evident both in his compositions and on the podium.
