Dury studied composition and arranging at The University of Birmingham, and composition for TV and film at the Faber Music Academy. His compositions and arrangements have been played around the world, and all of his string arrangements are tried-and-tested popular arrangements both with his own function string quartet and with student ensembles in some of the UK's leading schools.
